The grand stadium, also known as Al-Rayyan Stadium, with a capacity of 50,000 spectators, is still used for football matches by Qatar's Al-Rayyan Football Club. The stadium was built in 2003, and was named after the Emir of Qatar, Ahmad bin Ali Al Thani, but in 2015 the stadium underwent more than just a renovation. It was demolished and an entirely new sports facility was built in its place.

The multifunctional complex includes a number of construction projects: Hamad Aquatic Centre, Aspire Academy and Aspire Tower. It opened in 1976 and has a capacity of over 45,000. The National Stadium is undergoing regular renovations, introducing newer and better technology.
